FRC 2656 -Quasics- competed at the 2013 Pittsburgh Regional March 14-16 Petersen Events Center. About 25 of our FRC and FTC members, combined, showed up to the arena to compete and support our robotics team. The team returned home with a great smile on their face because of the excitement at the event. Despite a 4-7 record, the team was impacted positively. Many new discoveries were made in the areas of pit design, robot construction, and team spirit. 2656 is looking forward to a winning record in 2014 and an appearance in the Regional Elimination Rounds!
Quasics Places 4th PA FTC Championship Tournament
On Saturday, March 2nd, 2013, The Gateway High School FTC Team finished in 4th place in the Pennsylvania Championship Tournament in Millersville, PA. With programming from Kate and driving from Tai and Tyler, the robot played very well offensively and consistently scored points in each match. The team ranked no lower than 12th at any point during the day. They made the playoffs as the fourth seed, chosing two teams as their alliance partners (5944 and 4134). Although the team lost in the first round, they still had an amazing season, finsihing 4th in the state.
Quasics Qualifies For States
On February 9, 2013, Quasics went to compete in the annual FTC regional competition for Western PA at Robert Morris University. Taking home the Think Award and placing 10th at the regional, Team 5526 qualified for States and will compete in Millersville, PA on March 2nd.
Michael Kim says: “Although I was very sick at the day of the competition, I liked it very much and I enjoyed the experience. Lots of GP.”

On Thursday, January 31st, 2013, the Quasics visited Ellis School in Pittsburgh, PA. The team set up the robot and shot the discs directly into the three-point and two-point areas. View these achievements in the Youtube videos below.

2013 Ultimate Ascent
On January 5, FRC Team 2656 went down to Carnegie Mellon University to watch the kickoff for the new FRC challenge this 2013, Ultimate Ascent.
Ultimate Ascent is played by two competing alliances on a flat field. Each alliance consists of three robots, and they compete to score as many discs into their goals as they can during a 2 minute and 15 second match. The match ends with robots attempting to climb up pyramids located near the middle of the field. Each robot earns points based on how high it climbs.

Compunetix Field Trip
Gateway High School Robotics visits Compunetix Technology of Cooperation. Compunetix is the leading developer of converged VoIP, voice, video, and data collaboration and conferencing applications for the service provider, government, and corporate enterprise markets. They were kind enough to let our electronics team view their office and learn more about electronics from the professionals.
